Meet the team: Elena Petrov, Advertising and Social Media Lead Bulgaria

Tell us about your career journey so far.
I knew from friends that it is difficult for a woman after motherhood to find a new job, but I applied at Avon and was immediately approved. That was 7 years ago and I'm very happy that it happened because I found a great place where I can work in a creative, positive and very supportive environment. The company is dynamic and constantly challenges me to look for new solutions and to keep learning in a field like marketing and advertising, in which you can never safely call yourself a specialist, because every 5 minutes the rules of the game change!
What do you do as Advertising and Social Media Lead?
The impossible! 😊 My job is to create excitement and awareness around our new products and to keep the hype around our bestsellers. That includes relationships with media, influencers, creative agencies, events organization and video production. My everyday work is an inspirational challenge for creativity, fight with a chaos and constant scrolling on social media. Plus some administrative work that we all need to do from time to time.
What is the most challenging part of your job? And what is the most rewarding part?
The biggest challenge is to be able to see the future. It’s not that you just can't afford to fall behind the mainstream, you have to be one step ahead. Anticipating trends, avoiding uncomfortable topics, constantly proving yourself to the world. It sounds tiring, but it's actually the driving force that keeps you from being bored at your workplace. And the most satisfying thing is when you see that you have conquered the challenge and the story you tell with and about Avon products is a story that people understand and accept as their own.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your work at Avon?
I’m proud with honest communication that we have with our customers and followers. That I have the freedom to work on campaigns and products that are really good for people and our mission as a company is not only “sale, sale, sale” but also to make people’s life better and more beautiful.
Can you share something that people probably don’t know about the company?
Every year, Avon creates and tests over 1,000 products and has 200+ scientists and technicians that work on every breakthrough at our Skincare Institute. One of our latest breakthrough is Protinol technology that is one of a kind and is Avon patent for the next 10 years.
What is the most important career lesson you have learnt?
To adapt, to accept stressful situations without panic and to realize that career development does not always have to be vertical!
What would you advise young people looking for a career in Advertising and Social Media?
Be ready for e real-life rollercoaster- fun and exciting. Full with amazing views, sometimes with noisy people who are screaming for attention and a lot of great opportunities to be creative and brave in a constant changing world.
